Some kids dream of growing up to be an astronaut, a veterinarian or a rock star. But others keep their eyes firmly on the bottom line — on the money.

Our son Peter was one of the latter. He informed us — at the ripe age of six — that he was ready to start getting an allowance and that, no, 50 cents or even 75 cents would not suffice. Peter wanted the big bucks, the folding stuff.

When Peter was a little guy, I wrote a story for the Oakland Tribune about how the kids and money issue played out in our family. The story of how Peter plied the art of the deal is now posted on my website. You can find it at “A Case of the Human Condition: When Your Six-Year-Old Wants to Talk Money.”

You should be able to find that story now … a typo in the coding sent readers to a “It’s Not Here Anymore” page. Sorry!
