Some really nice people are saying some really nice things about Wrestling with God: Stories of Doubt and Faith.<\/em><\/p>\n

That’s because I asked them to.<\/p>\n

Authors needs endorsements for their books. Also known as as blurbs, endorsements go on the back of the book and into press kits. Big time authors have people whose job it is to secure their blurbs for them. Regular people like me have to round up their own blurbs. They have to ask people for them.<\/p>\n

I don’t know about you, but I have a lot of trouble asking people to do things\u00a0for me. And when that thing is to sing the praises of a book I’ve written, well, let’s just say it took me weeks and weeks to work up my courage to ask the likes of\u00a0authors\u00a0Phil Cousineau, Jana Riess and Don Lattin to please read my book\u00a0and then please say some nice things about\u00a0it.<\/p>\n

Kay Campbell I didn’t have to ask; she volunteered after a glass of wine or two at a Religion Newswriters Association conference back in 2013. (It was I who was drinking the wine, mind you. Which is probably what enabled me to bring up the subject of my beloved\u00a0book.)<\/p>\n

To my surprise, everybody — most everybody — said, yes, they would read my book. And to my amazement, everybody didn’t just like the\u00a0book, they actually got <\/em>it. Here’s a sampling:<\/p>\n
