Just for fun, I’m tossing a few bouquets to you from among the many\u00a0I spotted at the\u00a0Bouquets to Art exhibition on Thursday at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.<\/p>\n

Lots of anthuriums and proteas this year. And a gorgeous mystery blossom that I’m hoping you can help identify.<\/p>\n

For me, the most enchanting designs\u00a0are the ones that rely almost entirely on flowers and other vegetation — seed pods, tulip bulbs, cabbages.\u00a0Andrea Frenkel’s bouquet to\u00a0the 19th century painting, “A Celtic Huntress,”\u00a0does this beautifully. The huntress’s hair, dress and fleshy shoulders are captured subtly with living leaves and blossoms.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately for me and my preferences, more designers than ever\u00a0seem to be\u00a0 relying on strips of metal,\u00a0sheets of plastic, or\u00a0sprayed-on metallic paint to make their artistic statements\u00a0this year. The artificial to natural ratio is creeping up. I wonder why.<\/p>\n
