The woman said yes to\u00a0The Dress. To the dress she’ll be wearing\u00a0on\u00a0her wedding day.<\/p>\n

And with that, her mother — that would be me — opened yet another credit card account and placed the order.<\/p>\n

My dress\u00a0was too short for Christina . . .<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I bought my wedding dress off the rack at Saks Fifth Avenue forty years ago next March. But many brides these days plan way\u00a0ahead, ordering their gowns\u00a0months and months in advance. Typically, the fabric is shipped to China where the gown is assembled then shipped back to the U.S. for alterations in the store.<\/p>\n

Christina’s\u00a0Big Yes was the climax to the three days we’d \u00a0spent in August<\/a> driving all over Los Angeles (where Christina\u00a0and her fiance live) trying on A-lines, princess waists, mermaid curves, and big, fluffy concoctions.<\/p>\n

It was fun. Fun for the bride. And big fun for me to see\u00a0my daughter looking gorgeous\u00a0in gown after gown\u00a0— and absolutely dazzling in the one she picked out.<\/p>\n

You\u00a0won’t get to see pictures of it till next\u00a0May. But, trust me, it’ll be worth the wait.<\/p>\n

I had offered up my\u00a0own wedding dress and wedding shoes for Christina’s walk down the aisle. To no avail. The dress was too short, the shoes too long. This calls for a mother-daughter shopping trip.<\/p>\n
