But every year around this time, florists in San Francisco&#8217;s East Bay are invited to put on a show to benefit the Friends of Mountain View Cemetery,\u00a0a\u00a0famous old cemetery\u00a0at the top of Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. My favorite floral arrangement <!--more-->was by Heather Dunne and Mari Tischenko of \u00a0the Orinda Garden Club &#8212;\u00a0&#8220;Branch of Life,&#8221; with scarlet tulips floating above a gnarled branch.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6965\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6965\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6965 \" title=\"orinda-garden-club-at-mountain-view-cemetery-show\" src=\"http:\/\/barbarafalconernewhall.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/orinda-garden-club-branch-of-life-x-640x529.jpg\" alt=\"Floral arrangement with red tulips and grey branches. Photo by Barbara Falconer Newhall\" width=\"640\" height=\"529\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6965\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">My favorite -- because it was all about the tulips.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Also pretty cool was a concoction by Connie Hubbell and Gale Emigh of\u00a0Connie Hubbell Arts &#8212;\u00a0bright rays of yellow tulips shooting from a mid-century modern desk lamp.<\/p>\n<p>The arrangement I&#8217;m most likely to try at home, however, was\u00a0a bouquet of white tulips and orchids by\u00a0Michael Delaney of Lyal Nickals Florist. It calls to mind the exquisite, tightly\u00a0packed\u00a0creations you see all over Thailand.<\/p>\n<p>Too bad the florists weren&#8217;t given an opportunity to identify the flowers they used in their arrangments.
