Have you been wondering what’s become of me? I could say that I’ve been busy working on my next book and that would be true, sorta. (It’s a memoir in essays — like the ones you read on this website. Think of it as “Erma Bombeck and Betty Friedan meet for coffee.”)

Yes, I’ve been doing serious writing work, but the biggest reason I’ve been AWOL from this site is the constant distraction of the remodel we’re doing at our house. Add a skylight, remove a wall, redo a deck, update some windows, install a new front door. You get the idea.

Remodels are time-consuming, but they’re also disorganizing. You think your day is going to go one way, then the contractor shows up and wants to show you his cool design for a new mantel, which our fireplace has needed since we moved in 42 years ago.

As a result, I have not taken the time to sit down and write a nice, cogent blog post very often. But — I have been taking photos like mad and posting them on Instagram. So, if you really want to know what’s up at our house these days, go to @BarbaraFalconerNewhall on Instagram.
