I haven’t seen my hairdresser in 12 weeks. Do I need a haircut, really?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Sheltering at Home. Week 9. May 16, 2020\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I need a haircut.\u00a0It’s been twelve weeks since I last saw Gino. Gino is my hairdresser. He last cut my hair on February 22. I was getting ready to celebrate a wedding and I wanted to look good.<\/p>\n

Five and a half weeks later, stringent coronavirus shelter-at-home orders were in full force in my county, and my hair was still looking pretty OK.<\/p>\n

But now, it’s nine weeks into the coronavirus shut-down here in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I’m wondering — do I cut it myself? Ask Jon to give it a whirl? Or just let it grow and see what happens?<\/p>\n

Too Sick to Go to the Hairdresser<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The last time a virus came between me and Gino was 2 1\/2 years ago.<\/p>\n

That time it was the Epstein-Barr (mono) virus, I was too sick to go to the hairdresser and my white roots started to grow out.<\/p>\n

Curious — and too tired to go to see Gino — I let them keep on growing. Soon I was back on my feet with a curly headful of shiny, low-maintenance hair that I never had to blow dry. Ever.<\/p>\n

I liked the look. I made me feel glamorous. I kept it.<\/p>\n

This time it’s the SARS-CoV-2 virus that’s coming between me and Gino. My hair is now 3 1\/2, almost four inches long. It’s white in the front, and dark in the back. And it’s still short and curly enough to keep its fluffy shape.<\/p>\n

Blow Dry My Hair? I’d Rather Not<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Gino’s short haircuts have been great all these years. No blow drying those haircuts. All I had to do was wash my hair, towel it dry, then fluff it up with a wide-tooth comb. Done.<\/p>\n

But — what will happen if my hair gets to be 4 inches long? Five? Six?<\/p>\n

Will it get bigger and bigger and fluffier and fluffier? Will I look like Angela Davis?<\/p>\n

Or will it flatten out so much that I have to start blow drying it and fussing with it? Will I look like\u00a0 Jane Fonda?<\/p>\n

I’m going to find out.<\/p>\n
