I’m 79, going on 80, and this is my 600th blog post.<\/p>\n

The numbers are adding up.<\/p>\n

Eight decades on this planet.<\/p>\n

And six hundred essays published. Some big, some small. Some ambitious, some forgettable.<\/p>\n

I started posting on this website way back in 2009, starting out with a post about my son Peter, “How Selective Service Made a Man of My Son — Without Even Trying<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

And I’ve kept up a steady pace ever since — averaging one post a week for twelve years.<\/p>\n

This blog has been my companion through the death of my mother, aunt and husband.<\/a> Also, the weddings of two children, the births of two grandchildren, a major house remodel, and the publication of my first book<\/a>. Also one scary pandemic.<\/p>\n

As a result — there’s a lot of good stuff to read here. I invite you to spend a few hours with me — as you might spend time reading a book, and I’ll do my best to be good\u00a0 company.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve got an incurable Case of the Human Condition. And since you do too, I\u2019m counting on you to laugh and cry along with me as I riff on life as we know it . . . In this category, you’ll read about my creaky old fifties house, my forays into home gardening, my shopping stories, my spectacularly low-fashion wardrobe and more.<\/p>\n

My Ever-Changing Family<\/strong><\/a><\/h6>\n

Our family shrinks and grows. People die. People get born. People get mad and won’t talk to you for a while. Kids grow up and find partners of their own, and pretty soon there are brand-new in-laws. And a grandchild or two.<\/p>\n

You don’t have to be a big believer to find something interesting to read here. You’ll find excerpts from the spiritual journeys of people I’ve met on the religion beat as well as reports of my own fraught encounters with religion and spirituality. Also, updates on my book, “Wrestling with God: Stories of Doubt and Faith,”<\/a> from Patheos Press.<\/p>\n

I’ll keep on going with the writing, the gardening, the parenting and the grandparenting. That’s what I’ll do.<\/p>\n
