In these trying covid times, we all could use a little reminder now and then that there is plenty to be grateful for.<\/p>\n

A new book of poetry for kids aims to do just that — to show its young readers how to spot, and treasure, the small joys and beauties in our lives.<\/p>\n

The book is “For Every Little Thing: Poems and Prayers to Celebrate the Day.”\u00a0 June Cotner<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Nancy Tupper Ling<\/a> are the editors. The first-rate illustrations are by Helen Cann.<\/a><\/p>\n

The book will be published on September 21, but you can preorder right now<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“For Every Little Thing” would make a nice holiday gift for kids and their parents. But I say, don’t wait! This book is all about gratitude, which is exactly what a lot of us need right now, today.<\/p>\n

Fifty-one poems are included, and the voices are both modern and traditional and come from many cultures. Emily Dickinson is there, so is the Hindu guru,\u00a0Amma<\/a>. Also\u00a0Rabbi Rami M. Shapiro\u00a0and children’s poet\u00a0Kenn Nesbitt<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And so am I. The poem\u00a0 I contributed to this anthology is a bedtime prayer. It is short, but I like to think that its message will get you through the night.<\/p>\n
