I finally did it. I got covid. I’ve managed to avoid it for more than two years — by staying home during the early months, getting vaccinated and boosted, avoiding crowds, and wearing a mask indoors everywhere I go.<\/p>\n

But now the virus has got me, and I’ve got the covid chills, so I’m doing some on-line shopping for fuzzy sweats and warm, pink PJs to be delivered to my door asap.<\/p>\n

I’m feeling, well . . .\u00a0 sick, but I’m taking Paxlovid and listening to friends who’ve succumbed to the virus: they’re telling me I’ll be fine.<\/p>\n

And . . . if I’m well enough to shop for pink PJs — and write this post — how how sick can I be?<\/p>\n

(Weirdly, I’m reading Thomas Mann’s “The Magic Mountain,” in which the protagonist is in a tuberculosis sanitorium and keeps taking his temperature. His hovers around 99.7. So does mine.)<\/p>\n
