In my opinion, it&#8217;s a privilege, and it can be very dangerous if your dog doesn&#8217;t listen to you off-leash. Modern remote e-collar training is taking the dog training industry by storm, and today, I\u2019m going to teach you how to introduce the remote e-collar to your dog with confidence.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"HOW TO TEACH ANY DOG RECALL WITH THE E-COLLAR!\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4fsymbNOgBM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>What You Need<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dogtra.com\/products\/e-collars\/280c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dogtra 280C Remote Collar<\/a><\/li>\n<li>15, 20 or 30 foot long lead<\/li>\n<li>Dog Treats<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How to Introduce the Remote E-Collar<\/h2>\n<p>You want to start by associating that low-level stimulation with the command. So I trigger the e-collar stimulation with the command to come, and then when the dog comes to me, I shut it off. It\u2019s a classic form of escape training. This is not a correction, it is not a punishment, it does not hurt the dog. All it does is get his attention from a distance without having to physically touch him.<\/p>\n<p>You also want to make it fun by using lots of praise, \u201cgood come\u201d and \u201cgood dog\u201d, as well as physical praise, such as petting and treats. Eventually, you should be able to increase the distance, even getting the dog to come when you are not in their line of sight.<\/p>\n<p>One important note is to not to try and do this from a \u201csit &amp; stay\u201d position. You want the dog to be mobile \u2013 walking around, sniffing, investigating, doing his thing.<\/p>\n<h2>Where to Place the E-Collar<\/h2>\n<p>The e-collar should be nice and snug, right against the dog\u2019s skin. The receiver should be on either side of the neck. Not on the spine or the throat.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-7196\" src=\"https:\/\/server.stagingweb3.net\/upstatecanine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/SA704544-2-1-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"GSD Training\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/server.stagingweb3.net\/upstatecanine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/SA704544-2-1-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/server.stagingweb3.net\/upstatecanine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/SA704544-2-1.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>When to Use the Remote<\/h2>\n<p>The short answer is at the exact same time that you ask your dog to do something, in this case, to come. You say the dog\u2019s name, hold the continuous button, and say the command. You release the button when the dog gets to you.<\/p>\n<p>On the Dogtra 280C e-collar there are two buttons: a nick and a continuous. A nick means you\u2019re just tapping the dog. Even if you hold the button, it only taps once. Whereas with the continuous, you hold the button and it continues to send pressure until you release it.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve been doing this for a few days, and you\u2019ve properly introduced the e-collar, and both you and your dog are comfortable with it, you can progress to using the nick, instead of the continuous. In fact, some dogs respond better to the nick than the continuous.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, you want to do a quick 10-minute training \u2013 repeating the command come and using the nick or continuous button 3 or 4 times per session \u2013 and you want to do this 2-3 times per day for two weeks.<\/p>\n<h2>More Remote E-Collar Training for off leash Dog Training<\/h2>\n<p>E-Collars can be really overwhelming for dog owners, and there\u2019s a lot of misinformation out there, which is why I put together this blog post and video.
