Joe Biden: I’m Rewriting That Post I Wrote About Joe

Joe Biden is a great guy, but he doesn't really get it. That's OK for a seventy-something like him, but not for the Xers and beyond. New York Times articles discussses. Photo by Barbara Newhall

Joe Biden is a good guy. No doubt about it. And I’ll vote for him in a heartbeat if I have to choose between him and Mr. Trump.

I’m deleting my earlier comments about how Biden needs to understand that unwanted cozy touching is not OK and never has been.

Yeah. True, he needs to work on that. And I think he can. We seventy-somethings are definitely capable of change.

Why my flip-flop? I’ve decided not to join in the piling on. I’ve decided not to let myself be manipulated into joining the online backbiting. (See a post I wrote during the 2016 presidential race, “Donald Trump Played Me. Here’s How.”)

Is Joe Biden his party’s best bet  as president? Could be. He’d be a fine president, and he’d give voice to all the millions of working people who feel forgotten by the Washington and coastal “elites.” I also have my eye on some folks from younger — though not necessarily more enlightened — generations: Amy Klobuchar; I like that she’s tough. Pete Buttigieg; I like that he’s smart. Jay Inslee; yes, go green! Tim Ryan; yet another good guy. Elizabeth Warren; kinda professorial, but she’s got big finance’s number. And, and, and . . . .

  1. Hi Barbara,
There was an article today in the NYTimes about how Pete Buttigieg is in trouble because in 2015 he said that “All Lives Matter.” He’s going to have to go on the apology tour and may not ultimately be perfect enough for the far left. I like him very much! . . . I have mixed feelings about Joe Biden’s misbehavior towards women . . . I’ve seen a number of photos recently where he’s doing the same shoulder rub and hug to men. I’m from a very reserved Northern European background and have always admired the ability of some people to show affection. I loved your thought provoking article!

    1. imo there’s an awful lot of gratuitous hugging going on these days. Watch “American Idol” and you’ll see people meeting for the first time and hugging. Isn’t a hug a sign of affection? Shouldn’t affection be allowed to develop before the hugging starts?

      Thanks for the comments!

  2. good ol’ Joe – the Senator from DuPont, from fk’n over Antia Hill, from fk’n over everybody via his bankruptcy bill, from all the warmongering over Iraq and Syria…. and now he’s toxic cuz he’s touchy-feely from the 1960s… heh, indeed…

  3. I like Pete Buttigieg too! I don’t know who Jay Inslee is but I’ll look into his green policies. I think environmental concerns are paramount, though sadly, this opinion seems to be in the minority.
